Threat Modeling
Threat Modeling is a valuable tool for condensing a nebulous and frightening dangerous atmosphere into concrete and discrete threats that can be addressed practically.
There are several organizations whose missions support movement organizations in their threat modeling in a few ways. Organizations like Political Research Associates and Equality Labs monitor and track threats in the anti-LGBTQIA+ sphere, and can provide insights and data to help your team evaluate threats.
Organizations like the Digital Defense Fund and OnlineSOS have tools and guided activities for going through a threat modeling process with your team in order to realistically assess its vulnerability.
The threat modeling activities recommended above can be emotionally intense and anxiety-provoking. Consider contracting with an experienced facilitator from one of these organizations to walk your team through the activities and planning.
It is recommended to involve as much of the team as is practicable in the threat modeling exercises, and to regularly revisit and re-evaluate the results of the activities as the political landscape evolves.
